Lean in the office

> Information > Industry > Office

  • The principles of Lean and Six Sigma can be applied to any process regardless of whether the end output is a product or service.
  • The objective of a lean office process is similar to that for a manufacturing process – a smooth flow of work through value adding steps, achieving the response times and quality levels expected by the customer.
  • Waste in office processes includes delays, rework, inaccuracy, searching for information and excessive work in progress. When studying the actual time spent adding value compared to the total time taken to completing the work, it is not uncommon for an office process to contain less than 5% value added time.
